Year 3 pupils learn the art of djembe drumming

Year 3 pupils at Minerva Primary Academy are embracing the rhythms of West Africa as part of their music curriculum this term.

The pupils are learning to play the djembe drum, a traditional instrument that has been central to African music and culture for centuries.

The music lessons, aimed at developing creativity and teamwork, are giving pupils hands-on experience with the djembe.

A school spokesperson said: “We believe that music education is vital for the development of our pupils and introducing them to instruments like the djembe provides a fun and enriching experience that connects them with global traditions.

“It’s wonderful to see how engaged the children are.”
