Pupils at Minerva Primary Academy take part in maths activity
Year 3 pupils at Minerva Primary Academy engaged in an exciting hands-on activity this week, designed to strengthen their understanding of place value.
Using real currency, pupils worked with their teachers to create and explore three-digit numbers, reinforcing essential maths skills in a fun, interactive way.
The activity allowed them to visualise the concept of hundreds, tens and units by physically placing the coins in a place value grid, representing hundreds with £1 coins, tens with 10p coins, and units with 1p coins.
This hands-on experience was not only engaging but also highly effective in helping pupils grasp the fundamental structure of numbers.
A spokesperson said: “We are always looking for creative ways to bring maths to life for our pupils.
“This activity helped them understand the concept of place value in a practical, memorable way. By connecting maths to real-world money values, we’re making learning relevant and fun.”
