Children explore nature and numbers at Minerva Primary Academy
Preschool pupils at Minerva Primary Academy enjoyed a unique outdoor learning experience this week as they took part in a forest school session with a special focus on mathematics.
The session, titled ‘How many puffs does it take to blow your dandelion away?’, encouraged pupils to engage with early counting skills in a playful and active way.
Surrounded by nature, the children eagerly collected dandelions and practiced counting how many ‘huffs and puffs’ it took to blow the seeds away.
The fun, hands-on activity helped pupils practise saying number names in order while promoting physical activity and curiosity about the natural world.
A spokesperson for the academy said: “It was wonderful to see the children so engaged, laughing, learning, and exploring.
“The forest school environment offers the perfect setting to develop mathematical language and concepts through real-world experiences. The joy and excitement on their faces said it all!”
