Fire service visit inspires pupils at Minerva

Year 2 pupils at Minerva Primary Academy had an exciting visit from members of the local fire service, who came to teach pupils all about their important jobs and how we can stay safe in an emergency.

The firefighters explained that their job isn’t just about putting out fires — they also rescue people and animals, help in road accidents, and work to keep our community safe through education and prevention.

Pupils learned about fire safety at home and at school, and even tried out the ‘stop, drop, and roll’ technique.

This technique is a life-saving method for when your clothes or hair catch fire. It involves stopping all movement to prevent fanning the flames, dropping to the ground to smother the fire, and rolling back and forth to extinguish it by depriving it of oxygen.

A spokesperson for Minerva Primary Academy said: “We are so grateful to the fire service for taking the time to visit our school.

“Pupils loved learning about the amazing work firefighters do every day to protect us, and they came away with valuable knowledge about how to stay safe.”
